We started this project in Hoachanas four years ago, using the funds from our foundation to set up a photovoltaic system that feeds solar energy into the local grid. There is twice as much solar radiation in Namibia as there is in Germany. Namibia’s free sunlight can be used to replace fossil fuel to generate electricity. The proceeds from this resource will benefit the Hoachanas Children Fund, the local school and the community for social projects for at least 20 years. We are proud that we are building the first elevated solar system in the whole of Namibia. A gardening project is taking place in the shade of the solar modules! During our stay in Namibia, we were finally able to sign the contracts with everyone involved.

The system has been feeding electricity into the municipal grid since April 2023 and has been generating excellent yields ever since. It therefore makes sense to think about expanding the PV system and work out the options. The potential is enormous.

The income from the sale of electricity is used for the long-term and sustainable support of the inhabitants of Hoachanas.

One year after the inauguration, the solar project has generated N$ 53,940 for the local Hoachanas community. It was agreed that the amount generated by the solar plant would be donated equally to the PJ Tsaitsaib Combined School, the Hoachanas Settlement Office, the Hoachanas Children Fund and the solar project itself for maintenance. As a result, the four beneficiaries mentioned above each received N$ 13,486.
